USA

  1. Won the University of Wisconsin -System Regents award for teaching excellence (2018), the highest teaching honor in the 12- strong campus UW-System. This award is given to only two faculty members from the 12 universities of the UW-System

  2. Won the UW-Platteville’s Nimocks family appreciation award in 2020, awarded ato annually for contributions to undergraduate research and teaching

  3. Awarded the United States Fulbright Specialist status by the United States State Department for a project at Univ. of Sri Jayawerdenapura.

  4. Won the University of Wisconsin System’s Alliant Energy Underkofler Excellence in Teaching Award 2013 (Selected from among many UW four-year and two year campuses, including UW-Madison in all disciplines)

  5. Won the University of Wisconsin Chancellor Award for Teaching Excellence 2012 (Given to a single individual selected from among all 13 campuses of the UW Colleges and all disciplines).

Sri Lanka

  1. Head of the Department of Mathematics, the University of Colombo, in 2002 (As probably the youngest Head in the Faculty’s history)

  2. Created the Career Guidance Center (first director) of the Career Guidance Unit of the University of Colombo. This unit is the first-ever career guidance unit of a Sri Lankan university

  3. Worked at the University of Colombo for three years as a counselor, where he guided many students to obtain Ph.D. s in the USA

  4. Established the first ever overseas MS degree (and its first director) to be conducted entirely in Sri Lanka, collaborating with Keele University UK.
